Helping your child with maths

In the past, parents have commented that they want to be able to help their child at home with maths but are unsure of the calculation methods currently being taught in school and worry that they might be teaching them the ‘wrong way’. Staff have put together the School Calculation Policy below as a guide with examples, and hope that it will be useful. It explains how the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are taught from Reception through to Year 6 and also details the statutory requirements from the National Curriculum content that apply to calculation and number, place value and fractions.  There are also some practical resources below which you might find useful when practising calculation skills with your child.

Don’t forget: If you are looking for age appropriate on-line maths games for your child to play, there are some really helpful examples on each year group page.
